Schedule: The week (Mon - Fri) preceding the first full weekend in August

Mountain Music School is dedicated to the preservation and continuation of Appalachian music and culture. It offers "ear training" classes in beginning old-time fiddle, clawhammer banjo, and folk guitar. A string band class for intermediate/advanced musicians (guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, bass) is offered if there is enough interest. The faculty from MECC's traditional music program includes well-known local musicians. Students are also treated to class visits and afternoon concerts. All afternoon concerts are open and free to the general public as well.

Directions: Mountain Empire Community College is located on U.S. Route 23 near Big Stone Gap, some 30-minutes north of Kingsport, Tennessee, or 30-minutes south of Jenkins, Kentucky.
